Apr 7, 2022 – important thoughts I left off…

Wasn’t feeling so great the last couple days, and left off some hugely important thoughts on Lev 10…

Lev 10:1-2 is MEANT to be shocking on several levels, I think.  1) It’s a reminder that ALL sin is deadly (also see Rom 6:23, James 1:14-16). There ARE sins that are bigger / worse to God than others, but there are NO SMALL SINS. Because all sin is choosing something else over God Himself and His way. Some are shocked by death entering the world when Adam and Eve ate some forbidden fruit (see Rom 5:12), but the real shock should be that EVERY time we sin we’re choosing something else over God and that people aren’t struck down all the time!  2) Leaders are held more accountable – compare Lev 10:3 and James 3:1.  3) There’s a pattern of God executing someone over sin when the sin is very near Him a deeper revelation of God and His truth. (See the merciful first sacrifice of an animal in Adam and Eve’s place – Gen 3:21 compared to Rom 5:12; the man gathering sticks on the Sabbath in Num 15:30-36; Uzzah touching the Ark of the Covenant in 2 Sam 6:6-7; Ananias and Sapphira lying to the Holy Spirit in Acts 5:1-11).  4) Jesus Himself taught us that when we hear about death coming suddenly that we must view it as a call to repentance for us personally (Luke 13:1-5).  5) I think many today are shocked by the wrong thing – how can God be so harsh? But as you read the Bible you realize the deepest question is: “How can God be so MERCIFUL to hell-deserving sinners like all of us are and still be righteous??” The most shocking execution of all was God the Father taking out the full measure of His righteous wrath on His own Son so that all who trust in Him can be counted righteous (Isa 53:3-6; Rom 3:19-26).
